FYI on “DIY or DIE”

This blog is inspired by Laura Ingalls Wilder.  Or more precisely ,fans of Laura Ingalls Wilder. They call themselves Bonnet Heads sometimes. Most of them are just really enthusiastic fans of the Little House series, who like to relive their childhood memories.

Then there’s a small percentage who fall into the category of Bat-Shit Crazy, Prepping for The End- Times. Not that ALL Preppers are Bat-Shit Crazy. Let me make that clear. Just these ones are kinda. And in the realm of Preppers, not all Bat Shit Crazy ones are Little House fans.

I was made aware of the latter types of LIW fans while reading  The Wilder Life: My Adventures in the Lost World of Little House on the Prairie by Wendy McClure .During McClure’s visits to former homesteads of Laura , she and her husband take a weekend to spend time at a farm that holds annual homesteading weekend getaways, promising to help you relive life the way Laura did. As it turns out, it’s all a guise for heavy-duty religious people who think the end of days is coming and they need to learn how to can butter to get ready.

It dawned on me that if that day ever comes  and there’s some sort of apocalyptic event, there’s a good chance there’s going to be two kinds of people rocking the doomsday scene like a boss : Me & Mine and Crazy People. Who wants to spend apocalyptic times with crazy people? The intention of this blog is to educate and help prepare cool people like me so I have someone awesome to hang out with when the shit hits the fan. And I promise you…we won’t have to eat rancid butter.

Also, some of this  DIY stuff can be pretty useful in the world we live in right now.It isn’t just survivalist information, it’s about living with the resources at hand . The end may or may not be near but it’ll probably get closer if some of those sustainability practices aren’t practiced by more people now.

I should mention ,I’m a pop culture junkie and if you haven’t noticed how much planning for the end of the world  and actually living in a post-apocalyptic world are referenced in pop culture, don’t worry – I’ll point each and every one of them out to you. You’re welcome.
